Looking Back on 2019
It’s only by missing some chances in life that we gain new encounters. Predestination is precisely something that happens just in time, coming neither early nor late. The same is true of gaining access to the CNOOD family. Now as I look back, I still have a vivid picture of my first interview. I was ill at ease, for fear I could not give perfect answers. As the interview ended, I recalled every detail, wondering whether anything went wrong. Fortunately, I received a response shortly thereafter. I was so excited at that time. The first job in my life certainly had a special meaning, as it was a new start, new challenge, a key turning point.
It sounded so familiar when I was at school: Today you are proud to go to Yucai. Tomorrow Yucai will be proud to have you on campus. I just laughed it off in those days. Now as I recall it, I’m a little touched. I am wondering whether I have made you proud today. Having been a student for more than 20 years, I suddenly have a new role, a new responsibility as I manage to get adapted. It is to stick to my choice, to be grateful for others’ trust, and to give back to society. Financial work is no longer what I understood it to be in my school years, mere figures and charts. Getting rid of the boring way of expression, they come straight to the point in analyzing the financial situation.
Young and inexperienced, we knocked at the door of society as if by accident. The first step on the threshold still means learning new things. Other than the knowledge in books, learning in practice becomes more intuitive and profound. For example, when I was engaged in the EPC project, I learned the importance of budgeting in the early stage, tracking in the implementation and controlling in the late stage. The Myanmar project is a showcase of the advantages and disadvantages of overseas construction, providing a negative example for future EPC projects. As the ancients said, we should take the essence and discard the dross. The lessons from past experiences are the foundation on which to achieve perfect success in the future. In the Shanghai training program, I learned various international trade terms and of related legal issues, risk management of export goods, risk points easily overlooked in contracts, and issues to note in overseas work. During the studies, we will set aside teachers' questions and test papers, and test ourselves in real business in the world.
In the journey of life, we will encounter all kinds of people, and experience all sorts of things. For some of them, we add thick and deep-colored brushes, but others we just wave off; some are still around us, while others have faded offstage. The year 2019 was a transient moment in my life. I had confusion and loss, struggle and striving. I felt sad and lonely, but also harvested sweetness and joy. Only when we have tasted the joys and sorrows of life will we be dauntless in the journey ahead, as those bidding farewell to the youthful days meet new friends in their prime. Having lived through the ups and downs, we will confront life. In the next journey, let’s keep in mind our original aspirations and move forward hand in hand.
